Sixty-eight percent of child respondents in 15 Chinese cities have used a tablet device, with 73 percent only using the device for gaming, a recent survey showed.

The survey, on media literacy of children, polled participants at children's cultural centers last year, and received 3,306 completed questionnaires from children aged 6 to 12, Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

About 85 percent of those polled had an account on QQ, a domestic instant messaging tool, 51 percent had a micro blog account and 46 percent had an account on Wechat, China's three most popular mobile messaging apps.

The computer penetration rate among those polled was 95 percent and 45 percent had a mobile phone.

About 32 percent of respondents believed they had more Web knowledge than their parents.
