Two handmade Persian carpets valued together at some 450,000 yuan ($73,430) were seized by officers at Huanggang Customs in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, New Express reported on Friday.

The carpets were seized on Feb 25 from a car that arrived from Hong Kong. The driver told customs officers that he bought the carpets while traveling in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, for about 450,000 yuan.

Customs officers said any goods valued at more than 5,000 yuan bought in foreign countries must be declared for tax purposes, or they will be considered to be smuggled goods.

The case is still under investigation.
