School physical education classes were suspended after Beijing issued a yellow alert on Thursday warning of heavy air pollution over the next three days.
Beijing Municipal Commission of Education issued an urgent notice ordering that middle schools and kindergartens cancel PE classes and outdoor activities. PE exams and sports meetings are also postponed.
Private education institutions are required to enforce the same rules.
