BEIJING - China's Ministry of Finance (MOF) said Tuesday that the country has allocated 500 million yuan (81.17 million US dollars) as quake relief funds for Northwest China's Gansu province.

The money will mostly be used to resettle and treat earthquake victims, aid in the allocation of relief supplies and repair damaged public facilities and infrastructure, according to the MOF.

A 6.6-magnitude earthquake jolted the border of Minxian and Zhangxian counties in the city of Dingxi on Monday morning, leaving 94 dead and 1,001 injured as of Tuesday, according to local authorities.

An initial investigation showed that the quake destroyed 51,800 houses and severely damaged about 240,000 others. A total of 226,700 people have been relocated.
