International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Asia 2015 will be held from May 25 to 27 in Shanghai, the first time this world-class showcase for the electronic industry will be held in the city.

Co-organized by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) of the United States and Intex Shanghai Co Ltd, the event will cover a total net exhibit area of about 8,500 square meters at the Shanghai New International Expo Center, displaying latest technology and products, including 3D printing, robotics, sensors, wearables, etc.

Some of the biggest companies, including Amazon, Best Buy, Ford Motor Company, Hisense, IBM, Intel, JD.com, TCL, etc, are planning to attend the event. The organizers said 60 percent of the firms will be from overseas.

China is now a major driver of global consumer electronic devices, thus it is important for CEA to expand relations with China by launching the Asian version of CES in Shanghai, said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CEA. Although the show will be open only to a limited number of professional visitors, Shapiro predicted that it will attract about 15,000 attendees both from Shanghai and other Chinese cities.

Holding CES Asia in Shanghai will provide Chinese consumers and companies a chance to take a closer look at the world's most advanced technologies and products, said Wang Ning, executive vice president of China Electronics Chamber of Commerce.

Chen Xianjin, director of Shanghai Convention and Exhibition Industries Association, also believes that the launch of CES in Shanghai will inject more vibrancy and creativity into the Chinese electronics industry.

The International CES is the world's gathering place for all who thrive on the business of consumer technologies. Since the first CES in New York City in 1967, the International CES has grown to represent the entire technology ecosystem, with more than 3,500 exhibitors and 20 product categories, attracting more than 150,000 attendees from more than 140 countries and regions across more than 185,000 net square meters of exhibit space.
