7. Income gains and poverty alleviation

China's per capita disposable income stood at 23,821 yuan ($3,469) in 2016, up 6.3 percent from the year before in real terms. Urban and rural per capita disposable income reached 33,616 yuan and 12,363 yuan in 2016, up 5.6 percent and 6.2 percent respectively.

Meanwhile, China has made huge strides in poverty reduction, achieving the government's target of lifting 10 million people out of poverty. The country's financial input for poverty reduction hit a record high last year, with funding from the central and provincial governments exceeding 100 billion yuan ($14.5 billion) for the first time.
