Altay plays the lead in upcoming film

Altay, a picturesque prefecture in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, has become the "protagonist" of an upcoming movie that is also part of a franchise organized by the China Film Association to support young talent.
My City — Altay is scheduled to be released on the streaming platforms iQiyi and Tencent Video on July 18. Its theme song, The Song of Altay, will be released on July 12.
With award-winning filmmaker Tian Zhuangzhuang serving as art director, the project was launched in 2022 and consists of five short films, all produced by young directors. One of the stories centers on several teenagers pursuing their dream of becoming excellent hockey players.

During the premiere at the Huaxia Movie Center in Beijing earlier this month, the film's major creators, alongside representatives from the CFA and nearly 300 audience members from China and abroad, attended a sneak preview.
In addition to the screening, several well-known intangible cultural heritage items from Altay were showcased. A young artist born in the 1990s performed khoomei, a throat-singing technique, while a dancer presented Kara Jorga, a traditional ethnic Kazak folk dance.
