Cartoon series aims to promote environment protection in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region

A 26-episode cartoon series Kara and May was unveiled at a media conference in Beijing on Aug 25.

The series, produced by Karamay TV in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, advocates environmental protection and reflects qualities like courage, positivity and toughness.

Karamay is the name of a prefecture-level city, and it means "black oil" in the Uygur language. And for the series,the name of the city is separated into Kara and May, the two main characters.

"I hope people can enjoy views of the Gobi, desert, valleys and lakes in Xinjiang through this series," says Du Yong, the head of Karamay's publicity team.

"The series is an invitation. And we want to make people feel the charm of Karamay through cartoons, and promote local tourism through the spread of our culture," says Du.

The series will soon be shown on TV.
