BEIJING - Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said Monday that China congratulated the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) on its victory in the country's general election.

Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang have sent congratulatory messages to CPP President Chea Sim and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen respectively, Hong said.

Calling Cambodia "an important neighbor of close friendship," China is willing to provide help to Cambodia's national construction and people's welfare, and promote the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between two countries, Hong said.

According to Hong, Cambodia has seen political stability and stable economic development in recent years. Cambodia has chosen a path that accords with the country's national situation and made great achievements.

"China hopes that Cambodian people from all walks of life are committed to national unity and stability," Hong said.

Cambodia's National Election Committee (NEC) released the final election results on Sunday showing the CPP of long-ruling Prime Minister Hun Sen got 68 seats and the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) of long-time opposition leader Sam Rainsy took the remaining 55 seats.
