TORONTO - A shooting outside a shopping center in Canada's largest city Toronto killed one person and injured another Saturday night, leaving thousands of shoppers lining up to be checked by police before leaving the mall.

Several shots were fired in the parking lot of Yorkdale Shopping Center in northern Toronto shortly after 8:00 pm (2400 GMT), according to Toronto police spokeswoman Wendy Drummond, who told local media that it was a very large crime scene, which took a considerable number of officers to protect.

It was reported that a man was shot to the head and dead at scene while a women was wounded and taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition.

Every person trying to leave the mall was questioned by the officers, who took down their names, birthdays and driving license numbers. With police blocking off all exits and checking people, thousands of shoppers had to line up in their cars to leave the parking area and the traffic was moving very slowly.

Police said more than one gunman might possibly be involved in the shooting incident but right now they were not sure of the number of suspects.
