The Chinese national college entrance examination offers a level playfield for all Chinese, rich or poor, powerful or weak. It is a uniquely Chinese way for lower class citizens to move up the economic ladder - and also aims to ensure social mobility.
Therefore, Chinese people regard the exam as sacred, a sort of fair competition for scholars. Airlines and construction companies change their schedule so as to avoid making noise during the exam. This attitude only happens in China (or people of Chinese heritage). Do not change the tradition. Work to improve it.
