Fujian province has seen a rapid increase in the number of new energy vehicles (NEV) this year, reported Fuzhou Evening News on Aug 30.

A total of 2,033 NEVs have hit the road as of June, and about 1,300 were added this year, said the Fujian Commission of Economy and Information Technology.

Fujian stepped up efforts to promote the use of NEVs in 2014. It had 726 NEVs as the end of last year.

Among the 2,000-plus NEVs, only 27 percent are for personal use, whereas the rest were for public use.

About 23 percent are electric passenger cars, and nearly half are electric buses.

Fuzhou, Quanzhou and Xiamen have the most NEVs, taking up 28%, 27% and 16% of the total, respectively.

NEV charging facilities have made ground, too. There are currently 14 NEV charging stations, 141 DC charging poles and 332 AC charging poles across the province, said the commission.
