The 2013 National Junior Boxing Championship will take place in Pingnan county, Ningde city, Fujian province, from July 22 to 30. More than 600 boxers, coaches and judges will gather in Pingnan. This will be the first time the county will host a national sports event for a single sport. The event will surely help promote its tourism.

To ensure the championship goes smoothly, the Party committee of Pingnan held a meeting regarding preparatory work. It will establish an organizing committee with special personnel handling different affairs including field and facility management and promotion work.

As the cradle of martial arts, Pingnan has nourished many boxing talents for provincial teams, including Zhang Jiawei, the second place winner in the Guangzhou Asian Games; Wu Pingcheng, the runner-up in the National Junior Boxing Championship (49kg level); and Lu Chengan, fifth place winner in the National Games.

Furthermore, the county boasts a world geological park as well as a national 5A scenic spot, Baishuiyang and Yuanyangxi, which is located in a sub-plateau area where the climate is highly enjoyable. The region is an ideal place for boxing.

The Boxing and Taekwondo Management Center of the General Administration of Sports of China and Fujian Sports Bureau have launched the sports event. The organizers are the Fujian Heavy Athletics Administration Center, Ningde sports bureau and Pingnan government.
