Work beginning on Ningde Baishuiyang geology museum
Groundbreaking ceremony of the new geology museum.
There was a groundbreaking ceremony in Pingnan county, Fujian province for the new Ningde Baishuiyang World Geology Museum, on Jan 28, with Ruan Sichun, a deputy county magistrate, Chen Zhaohui, vice-president of the county CPPCC, and Chen Shaofeng, head of management at the Pingnan Baishuiyang Yuanyangxi scenic spot on hand for the affair.

Back in October 2010, Ningde’s Geopark, which consists of the Baishuiyang River, Taimu Mountain, and Baiyuan Mountain, got the “World Geopark” title, which helped make it a top tourism brand. Now, the geology museum will be used as a grand display of geological items found in Pingnan, and be a place where people can learn more about geology as a science and the park itself. It will also be used to protect the geology and resources of the area, while playing a role in improving Pingnan’s tourism and service facilities for ecology-tourism in the county.

The museum has a projected cost of 48 million yuan, and will cover a 3,890-square-meter area with the nine-story building taking up 1266 square meters, with a floor area of 10,461 square meters. The first floor of the building will be the museum, while the second and third floors will have tourism products on display. The fourth will be an urban planning exhibition center, the fifth, warehouse; the sixth to the eighth, offices; and the ninth, conference rooms. Construction work is expected to finish before May Day, 2014.
