Major categories of foreign artifacts at the Palace Museum.

Antique mechanical clocks: About 1,500 from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Switzerland.

Handicrafts: About 4,500, with Japanese lacquer ware and jade articles from Central Asia comprising a major part of the collection

Scientific instruments: About 700 from the United Kingdom and France.

Textile: About 100 pieces from Russia, the United Kingdom, and Japan.

Medical artifacts: About 200

Weapons: 370, including swords from the Korean Peninsula, Nepal, and Ryukyu (today's Okinawa), and rifles mainly from the UK and the Netherlands

Spiritual items: 100, mainly from India and Nepal

Gifts or individual donations after the founding of New China in 1949: 2,822
