State Council appoints, removes officials

BEIJING -- The State Council on Tuesday announced the appointment and removal of several leading officials.

Liu Wei was appointed vice minister of finance.

Yu Jianhua was appointed vice minister of commerce and deputy international trade representative with the Ministry of Commerce (MOC). Zhang Xiangchen was removed from the post of deputy international trade representative with the MOC.

Zhang Jie was appointed vice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and removed as president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Lin Zhongqin was named president of the university instead.

Chen Dong was named deputy head of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Zhou Shuchun was removed from the post of vice president of Xinhua News Agency.
