SHIJIAZHUANG - A Chinese-style wrestling competition will be held in north China's Hebei Province, organizers here have said.

"Wrestling Heroes" is a traditional Chinese wrestling contest jointly launched by China's State General Administration of Sports and the Chinese Wrestling Association in 2016, which it aims to set up as a new brand for the sport at the pro level.

All of the contestants are top players from the 2016 China National Wrestling Championship, who will compete for the 'Golden Robe,' the highest honor of 'Wrestling Heroes,' through regular and play-off games running in 2016 and 2017.

Shijiazhuang, Hebei's capital city, will host the fourth round of the combat sport games, starting from December 15. It has five weight classes for male wrestlers and two for their female counterparts, including men's 80 kg and women's 68 kg.

Wu Liyan, deputy director of the Shijiazhuang Municipal Bureau of Sports, said in a press conference that she hopes the upcoming competition could instill new vigor into traditional Chinese-style wrestling.

Organizers say they plan to invite foreign wrestlers to attend the 'Wrestling Heroes' games, and hold parts of the event overseas in the near future.
