China lodges complaint to US over Trump's call with Taiwan leader

By Wang Qingyun | chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2016-12-03 19:45

China has "lodged solemn representation" to the United States over the phone conversation the US President-elect Donald Trump had with Taiwan leader Tsai Ing-wen on Friday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said on Saturday.

Geng said it is acknowledged by the international community that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China's territory, and the government of the People's Republic of China is the only legal government representing China.

"The one-China principle is the political basis for China-US ties. We urge relevant parties in the US to honor the one-China policy, observe the three joint communiques issued by China and the US, and to carefully and properly deal with issues concerning Taiwan so as to avoid unnecessary disturbances on the bigger picture of China-US ties," Geng said.
