BEIJING - Wang Qishan, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), on Friday met with former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and called for closer cooperation between the two largest economies in the world.

Wang Qishan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the CPC's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, said China and the United States are economically complementary to each other and their interests are closely interwoven.

Their bilateral relationship has become more and more globally influential, Wang said.

China and the United States should respect each other and cooperate, Wang said, adding that the two sides should make concrete moves to enhance communication and boost cooperation.

Wang said China will adhere to a path of peaceful development while advancing socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Wang also briefed Kissinger on China's efforts to fight corruption.
