GM sets new Aug sales record in China

US automaker General Motors said on Wednesday that it has set a new August sales record in China.

Sales rose 7.3 percent from August last year and 10.8 percent from July to 220,996 units.

All three of GM's manufacturing joint ventures set sales records for the month.

Shanghai GM's domestic sales were up 11.7 percent on an annual basis to 110,209 units. The sales of the JV SAIC-GM-Wuling in China rose 3.4 percent to 106,500 units, and FAW-GM's domestic sales increased 17.4 percent to 4,117 units.

During the first eight months, GM and its joint ventures in China sold 1,837,546 vehicles in total, an increase of 11.2 percent year on year and a new record for the period.

Shanghai GM's sales in China grew 7.1 percent to 846,822 units. SAIC-GM-Wuling's domestic sales grew 15.6 percent to 950,621 units, and FAW-GM's domestic sales decreased 1.0 percent to 36,668 units.
