China marks 20th anniversary of hi-tech park program

BEIJING -- An exhibition marking the 20th anniversary of the establishment of a national high-tech industrial park program concluded on Monday, attracting more than 20,000 visitors.

Among the visitors were several senior officials, including State Councilor Liu Yandong, Deputy Head of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection He Yong, Vice-Chairmen of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Lu Yongxiang, Han Qide and Sang Guowei, State Councilor Ma Kai and Minister of Science and Technology Wan Gang.

Over the last two decades, 88 State-level high-tech industrial parks have been established across the country.

In 2011, industrial parks across China reported total revenues of 13 trillion yuan ($2.06 trillion), paying 681.6 billion yuan in taxes. Companies in the high-tech parks laid claim to 50.7 percent of patents obtained by Chinese enterprises that year.

The exhibition was jointly held by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission, and the ministries of finance, land and resources, housing and urban-rural development.
