An exhibition named Napoleon and the Decorative Art: Treasures of the Imperial Palaces raised the curtains in the Macao Museum of Art Wednesday, showcasing over a hundred pieces of imperial furniture of the Napoleonic period out of France for the very first time.

The exhibition presents a selection of 125 of the finest masterpieces, including tables, chairs, beds, cabinets, clocks, candelabra, chandelier, vases, oil paintings and tapestries, which adorned various palaces of Napoleon I and his family.

The throne of Napoleon on loan for this special occasion from the French Senate and some foldable furniture used during expeditions of Napoleon are also included.

All these royal furnishings fully illustrate the extraordinary craftsmanship of the time and unique themes that symbolized the imperial aesthetic penchant and social ideology of that particular era.

As a highlight of this year's Le French May arts festival, the exhibition was jointly organized by the Macao Museum of Art, the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong & Macao and the Mobilier National and the Gobelins, Beauvais and Savonnerie Manufactories, and runs until July 14.
