Shrinking gambling revenue

Average consumption per person by mainland tourists in the first quarter, excluding gambling, was 2,152 yuan ($346), down by 15.1 percent year-on-year.

Total non-gaming consumption of all tourists was 13.36 billion yuan in the first quarter, down 16.2 percent compared with the same period last year.

Mainland backpackers totaled 648,000 in April, down 6.6 percent year-on-year

A total of 99 hotels and guesthouses provided 28,000 rooms for inbound tourists by the end of April, a 1.7 percent rise from last year.

Five-star hotels accounted for 64.8 percent of the total supply with 18,000 rooms.

Gambling sector made up around 80 percent of Macao's GDP last year.

The contribution of casino revenue to Macao's GDP dropped by 24.5 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of this year.
