30 drug suspects busted

China Daily | Updated: 2014-05-28 07:09

Police in Beijing have arrested more than 30 foreigners suspected of drug crimes and confiscated 790 grams of drugs in a three-month campaign, the Beijing police bureau told Beijing Times on Monday.

The police intensified their investigation of illegal drug activities in areas including Sanlitun, where a large number of foreigners live and work, in early March, and detained more than 10 foreigners suspected of drug crimes.

The police broke multiple criminal gangs involved in drug crimes after interrogations and investigations. Most of the gang members were foreigners and most had brought drugs with them to Beijing from southern China, police found.

After becoming familiar with the suspects' activities and securing enough evidence, the police started making arrests. From May 15 to Sunday alone, police seized more than 10 foreign suspects and confiscated 630 grams of drugs, the bureau said.

In one case, the police used an arrested suspect as bait to catch another two drug dealers on Thursday night. The police found 12 bags of drugs from the two, containing marijuana, ice and ecstasy.
