Ladies and Gentlemen, on behalf of the whole family of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS) and Peking Union Medical College (PUMC), I take the great honor to give you a brief introduction to CAMS and PUMC, and the achievements that the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences has made in its 60 years history and those of Peking Union Medical College in its glorious 100 years history.
Peking Union Medical College, founded in 1917, was the first key medical school in China to offer an eight-year curriculum in clinical medicine and undergraduate courses in nursing.

Fang Qi, born in 1920, professor, doctoral supervisor. He is the honorary president of the PUMC Hospital of CAMS. He was once vice-director of Central Health Commission and vice-chairman of the Chinese Medical Association. Fang is an established expert in cardiovascular diseases in China and has made outstanding contributions to the country's initiatives in medical treatment and health care.
Ba Denian, born in 1938, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, immunologist and medical educator, former president of CAMS and PUMC. Ba has long devoted himself to reforming and developing a long-term medical education model on basis of the experience of PUMC. The successful education model has been promoted to other universities in China, owing to the radiating and leading role of PUMC in medical education filed in the nation.
Liu Shilian, born in 1926, professor. He was former director of the Institute of Basic Medicine of CAMS, director of the Immunology Research Center of WHO, member of the Experts Committee on New Drug Research and Development. He is also an academician of the Belgian Royal Academy of Sciences, Literature, and Fine Arts. Liu is a leading biochemist and medical educator in China.
