Distinguished University Professorship

Fang Qi, born in 1920, professor, doctoral supervisor. He is the honorary president of the PUMC Hospital of CAMS. He was once vice-director of Central Health Commission and vice-chairman of the Chinese Medical Association. Fang is an established expert in cardiovascular diseases in China and has made outstanding contributions to the country's initiatives in medical treatment and health care.

Wang Aixia, born in 1932, professor. She specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases for many years. She identified the first AIDS case in China in 1985 and established the country's first laboratory for studying the illness. She formulated the national standard for diagnosis and treatment of AIDS.

Liu Lisheng, born in 1928, professor, doctoral supervisor. She was former vice-president of Fuwai Hospital of CAMS, chairman of the Chinese Society of Cardiology, chairman of the World Hypertension League, chairman of the Chinese Hypertension Association. Liu, as an academic leader in domestic hypertension research field, led the compilation of China's first hypertension prevention and treatment guidelines.

Zhang Youhui, born in 1928, professor, doctoral supervisor. He was former vice-president of Cancer Hospital of CAMS. Zhang specializes in tumor immunology research, initiates the immunity study of human macrophage, proves macrophage's important role in innate immunity against tumors and confirms the mechanism that macrophage prevents and cures cancers.

Lu Rushan, born in 1924, professor. Lu worked as director of the Institute of Radiation Medicine of CAMS and assistant director-general of the World Health Organization. Lu is a radio biologist and an expert of medical informatics. Lu has long engaged in the research and education of biochemistry and radioactive medicine and made important contributions to the national information and book network and built China's largest medical literature database.

Chen Zaijia, born in 1928, professor, doctoral supervisor. Chen has done medical research in cardiovascular diseases for five decades, and achieved great achievements on clinical diagnosis and treatment and research into the coronary heart disease. Chen has done much work for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of illnesses such as acute myocardial infarction and angina. She is an outstanding expert on cardiovascular diseases in China.

Luo Weici, born in 1924, professor, doctoral supervisor. He was once chairman of the Chinese Society of Internal Medicine and chairman of the Asia-Pacific Respiratory Association. Luo is a renowned respiratory epidemiologist and therapist in China and has long engaged in clinical treatment, teaching and scientific research of the Respiratory Department.

Gu Fangzhou, born in 1926, professor, doctoral supervisor. He is a medical scientist and virology expert. Gu was the former president of CAMS & PUMC, member of the Royal Society of Internal Medicine (London) and member of Third World Academy of Sciences. Gu succeeded in developing the first polio (Sabin type) live vaccine in 1959 and developed two kinds of live vaccine - liquid and sugar coated pills in the early 1960s.

Xu Jintang, born in 1929, professor. He is a medicinal botanist and has studied cultivation of medicinal plants for more than five decades. Xu has made prominent contributions to cultivation technology and theoretical research into China's famous and precious herbal medicine - Coptis chinensis, gastrodia elata and grifola. As Xu's research on gastrodia elata has achieved important results, he was praised as "the Saint of Coptis" and "the father of gastrodia elata".

Han Rui, born in 1929, professor, doctoral supervisor. He was former deputy director at the Institute of Materia Medica of CAMS, chairman of Committee of Anti-Cancer Agent of Chinese Anti-cancer Association. Han is a renowned tumor pharmacologist in China and has been committed to research and development of antineoplastic drugs for nearly five decades.
