Shenzhen is poised to play an active role in promoting the country's supply-side structural reform through innovation and quality enhancement as the host of the country's largest and most influential technology show.

China Hi-tech Fair 2016 will kick off in the southern Chinese city on Wednesday and will last until Monday.

The event, themed "innovation-driven, quality-oriented", has attracted more than 3,000 exhibitors from over 30 countries and regions across the world, who will contribute over 10,000 projects for exhibition, negotiation and trade.

Twenty-three Belt and Road countries and regions will bring their innovative technologies and high-tech products to the show, with Bahrain and South Africa joining for the first time.

Innovation and quality are crucial to the country's supply-side structural reform, Shenzhen Mayor Xu Qin said.

"While innovation can help create new supply, quality can enhance the level of supply," he said at a press conference on Tuesday.

"At the present time, low-level supply (of our products) is excessive, but high-level supply is in shortage. Promoting innovation and improving quality will help unleash more demand while at the same time enhance international competitiveness of our products."

The fair will be held at the Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center with an exhibition area exceeding 115,000 square meters. It is expected to attract 500,000 domestic and international visitors.

A number of high-end forums, unveiling of new products and project road shows will be held at the event.
