BEIJING - China's top legislature will deliberate a draft decision to amend seven laws, including the Prison Law, and review a report on the qualifications of certain national delegates, during a bimonthly session scheduled for next week.

The National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee will convene a session on October 23 to 26 in Beijing, according to a decision made at Monday's meeting of the chairman and vice chairpersons of the NPC Standing Committee. The meeting was presided over by NPC Standing Committee Chairman Wu Bangguo.

A draft amendment to the Postal Law will be discussed for the first time at the upcoming session, according to a statement issued by the NPC Standing Committee after the meeting.

Lawmakers will also discuss cases of appointments and dismissals, according to the statement. The statement provided no details of the draft amendment and the above-mentioned bills.

Lawmakers next week will continue to debate on the draft mental health law following two readings in October last year and August this year. They will also discuss a draft revision to the Law on Securities Investment Funds, which was first tabled for deliberations in June.
