MACAO - Macao's Composite Consumer Price Index (CPI) for February this year increased by 5.65 percent over the same period of last year, according to the figures released Friday by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

In comparison with February 2013, price index of housing and fuels, household goods and furnishings, and food and non-alcoholic beverages recorded notable year-on-year increase of 12.28 percent, 6.92 percent and 6.75 percent respectively during the period, due to higher rentals, dearer prices of vegetables as well as rising charges for eating out and domestic services, according to the figures.

Meanwhile, the price index of recreation and culture decreased by 2.72 percent upon reduced charges for package tours after the Lunar New Year.

The average Composite CPI for the first two months of 2014 increased by 6 percent year-on-year. For the 12 months ended February 2014, the average Composite CPI increased by 5.57 percent from the preceding period.
