The new plan builds on the previous Target 2025, which aimed for 10 billion yuan in exports. While achieving 85 percent of that goal by year-end 2025, the Norwegian Seafood Council expects to reach the original target in 2026.
Recent market developments have expanded opportunities beyond salmon, Norway's leading export category to China. A new protocol on wild aquatic products between China and Norway will grant improved market access for wild aquatic products, including brown crab, king crab and shellfish.
"China's seafood market is undergoing continuous evolution, with consumers paying increasing attention to freshness, health value, convenience, and value for money," Yao Qifei, vice-president of the China Aquatic Products Processing and Marketing Alliance, said.
"This trend brings new opportunities to the industry."
"From the Target 2025 plan to the new Target 2035, our confidence in the long-term potential of the China market remains strong," Sigmund Bjørgo, China director of the Norwegian Seafood Council, said.
"We will continue investing in the Chinese market and working closely with Chinese industry partners to explore new opportunities and bring Norwegian seafood closer to Chinese consumers."
