The Norwegian Seafood Council launched its Target 2035 on Friday at the 9th China International Import Expo, aiming to boost Norwegian seafood exports to China to 20 billion yuan ($2.9 billion) by 2035.

The announcement comes as China solidifies its position as Norway's second-largest seafood export market in 2026, up from third place in 2025. From January to September this year, Norwegian seafood exports to China reached 158,230 tons worth 8.3 billion yuan, marking year-on-year increases of 15 percent and 26 percent, respectively.

"China is an important trading partner for Norway, and seafood is an important pillar of our bilateral trade relationship," Cecilie Myrseth, Norway's minister of industry and commerce, said.

"It is important to further strengthen cooperation and connections across the seafood value chain and respond to the evolving needs of Chinese consumers, and I look forward to promoting Norwegian businesses in China this week."

"I believe there's still a lot of room for growth in China. It's such a huge market, with so many people wanting to eat healthily," Christian Chramer, CEO of the Norwegian Seafood Council, said.

"We have great expectations for China, and we believe that we can both supply more and meet the needs of our established consumers, while also attracting new consumers to the category."
