Two new varieties of Chinese-developed cut roses went on sale nationwide on Thursday bearing the names of two late grassroots officials.
The roses, named Wenxiu and Jiaolong, were developed by researchers at the Flower Research Institute of the Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, with full independent intellectual property rights.
The first batches sold out within minutes of becoming available online, according to Xinhua News Agency.
The pale-yellow Wenxiu rose honors Huang Wenxiu, a village official in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region who devoted herself to rural poverty alleviation. Huang died in a flash flood in 2019 at the age of 30 while returning to her village.
