In Rongcheng, Shandong province, flocks of whooper swans were seen taking flight, swimming in groups, or dipping their heads to feed in the water on Tuesday.
Rongcheng is a well-known wintering habitat for whooper swans in China. Every October, the birds travel thousands of miles to migrate here, spending the long winter in the coastal city.
Thanks to the open waters of local bays and abundant food such as fish, shrimp, and shellfish, various waterways across Rongcheng have formed a habitat ideal for the swans to live and forage.
