War crimes by Japanese invaders in China undeniable: Chinese military spokesman
BEIJING - Japan cannot deny the ironclad facts of the war crimes committed by its invading army in China during World War II, a Chinese military spokesman said on Friday, responding to a documentary about Unit 731.
Chen Xi, a spokesman for China's Ministry of National Defense, made the remarks at a news conference when asked about "Inside Unit 731: Japan's Secret Human Experiments," a documentary produced by Singapore-based TV network CNA on Japan's wartime biological weapons program.
Chen stressed that during World War II, Unit 731 carried out inhumane experiments on living people and waged biological warfare, writing one of the darkest chapters in the history of human civilization.
He noted that recent attempts by right-wing forces in Japan to downplay the crimes of Japan's war of aggression and distort public understanding of history had raised concerns internationally.
"Only through thorough reflection and sincere remorse for its past crimes can Japan truly move forward," Chen said.
