Wuhan opens 1,735 cooling spots in communities amid summer heat

Amid the summer heat, Wuhan in Hubei province has opened 1,735 cooling spots at residential communities for the public to find rest and entertainment.

The spaces have air conditioners, drinking water, anti-heat emergency drugs, and gaming devices, with staff members providing services. Residents with financial difficulties, seniors living alone, and children whose parents are at work are prioritized for the service.

The Xigang community in Jiangxia district, for example, organizes fitness classes in the morning and has a chess and card zone, reading corner, massage zone, and ping-pong tables. The community also provides free haircuts and crafts classes from time to time.

Social workers, volunteers, and charity workers also assist with shopping for those who are unable to go out in the striking heat.
