Dunhuang scenic areas roll out heat-relief measures as temperatures top 40 C
In response to the persistent heatwave sweeping across northwestern Gansu province, Dunhuang's scenic areas have introduced a range of measures to protect tourist safety.
From July 2 to 8, temperatures in the city reached around 40 C, with some areas climbing as high as 44 C, according to the local meteorological authority.
At the Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring Scenic Area, more than 200 misting systems have been installed at ticket entrances, tourist service areas, and camel-riding routes. Camel operations have also been adjusted to avoid the hottest hours. The visitor center maintains an indoor temperature of 22 C, while shaded rest areas and improved ventilation systems provide visitors with more comfortable spaces to take breaks. The scenic area also provides chilled bottled water for just two yuan ($0.29).
