The flood control and drought relief headquarters of East China's Anhui province elevated its emergency response for flood and typhoon prevention to Level II on Sunday for the cities of Xuancheng, Chizhou, and Huangshan.

Provincial authorities had initially activated a Level IV emergency response across all 16 cities on Friday before raising it to Level III for the three cities.

The center of Typhoon Bavi moved to Anhui on Sunday morning and is expected to remain in the province until Monday, according to provincial authorities.

On Saturday night, officials in Changqiao township, located in Xuancheng's Jingxian county, promptly relocated 76 elderly residents from two local nursing homes to alternative sites tailored to their health conditions.

On Friday, provincial authorities advised residents across the province to stay indoors unless necessary, avoid rivers, low-lying areas and potential falling objects, clear blocked drainage ditches and pipes, and stockpile essential emergency supplies such as food, drinking water, flashlights, power banks, and medications.

"After receiving the typhoon warning, we activated the Yuetan Reservoir's emergency plan and maintained 24-hour continuous monitoring, preemptively freeing up reservoir capacity," said Zhang Jun, director of the Yuetan Reservoir management office in Huangshan city.

"We conduct inspections every four hours, focusing on the Hongqi Reservoir's dam body, spillways, and water release culverts to ensure early detection and handling of any issues," said Ye Wuhao, a village cadre from Xitou village in the city's Shexian county.

Numerous tourist attractions within the province, such as the Huangshan Mountain Scenic Area, were closed to visitors from July 11 to 12. Special reinforcement measures have been implemented for ancient trees like the 1000-year-old Guest-welcoming Pine on Huangshan Mountain.

In addition, Hefeinan Railway Station, the largest train station in the province, updated its notice on Sunday noon, stating that all high-speed trains to and from Hefei, except for one from Hefei to Xi'an of Shaanxi province, have been suspended for the day.
