Six people were killed after a cement tanker overturned onto a car in Fuyuan county, Southwest China's Yunnan province, local police said on Sunday.

The crash occurred at about 8 am on Saturday in Laochang township, according to a statement published by the Fuyuan County Public Security Bureau on its WeChat official account.

Police said the tanker, driven by a 43-year-old man surnamed Liu, overturned while passing a car driven by a 29-year-old woman surnamed Li, crushing the smaller vehicle.

All six people in the car were killed. Liu has been taken into police custody, and tests ruled out alcohol or drug use, the statement said.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway, while authorities continue handling the aftermath.
