A Chinese mainland spokesman on Wednesday criticized the Democratic Progressive Party authorities for attempting to indoctrinate military academy graduates in Taiwan with anti-communist ideology, accusing them of deliberately escalating confrontation across the Taiwan Strait.

Speaking at a regular news conference, Chen Binhua, spokesman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, responded to the DPP authorities' decision to restore the "anti-communist patriotic education" course for military academy graduates.

He criticized the DPP authorities for attempting to indoctrinate graduates of Taiwan's military academies with anti-communist ideology and incite them to fight for "Taiwan independence" and for the DPP.

"This represents a reversal of the course of history and a deliberate attempt to escalate confrontation and tensions across the Taiwan Strait," Chen added.

The island's "defense" authorities recently announced to rename the "patriotic education and political training course" for military academy graduates back to "anti-communist patriotic education", citing what they described as "the mainland's growing military threat to Taiwan".

Chen said the Communist Party of China has always remained committed to its founding mission of seeking happiness for the Chinese people and rejuvenation for the Chinese nation. It has consistently maintained close ties with the people and has always enjoyed their wholehearted support, serving as the core of leadership in contemporary China, he added.

He reiterated that "Taiwan independence" leads nowhere, and seeking "Taiwan independence" through military means is a dead end.

Chen also urged the people of Taiwan to recognize the malicious intent and harm posed by the separatist forces advocating "Taiwan independence" and not become sacrificial victims or cannon fodder for their agenda.
