China conducts marine environment survey east of Taiwan Island
Chinese marine researchers carried out a comprehensive environmental survey in waters east of Taiwan Island this week to gather scientific data on the region's ecological conditions and support marine conservation efforts, authorities said on Thursday.
The survey was conducted from June 16 to 18 by the research vessel Xiangyanghong 22, operated by the East China Sea Bureau of the Ministry of Natural Resources.
Scientists employed a multidisciplinary approach to collect a range of environmental data, including marine environmental DNA samples, observations of seabirds and cetaceans such as whales and dolphins, as well as measurements of seawater chemistry, hydrological conditions and meteorological factors.
The ministry said the investigation aims to improve understanding of the natural ecological status of China's administered maritime areas and provide scientific support for marine ecological protection.
Data gathered during the survey will help researchers assess the health of local marine ecosystems, identify key habitats and strengthen biodiversity conservation efforts in the area, according to the ministry.
