Pingliang, where ancient wisdom meets modern wellness

The resonant tones of bronze gongs and singing bowls drifted through Kongtong Mountain in Pingliang, Northwest China's Gansu province, on June 15, inviting visitors into a moment of stillness amid the bustle of modern life.

More than a performance, the immersive sound experience offered a glimpse into Pingliang's centuries-old wisdom of harmony between humanity and nature, becoming one of the highlights of the 2026 Pingliang cultural tourism promotion event.

The event brought together guests, media representatives, and tourists from across China, serving as an important platform to showcase the city's Taoist heritage, wellness resources, and distinctive local culture.

Pingliang was once a strategic stronghold at the eastern end of the Northern Silk Road. The city is home to Kongtong Mountain, one of the sacred cradles of Taoist culture.

According to legend, the Yellow Emperor, the legendary common ancestor of the Chinese nation, once journeyed here in search of wisdom. Over the past 1,500 years, Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism have flourished side by side, shaping Kongtong into a place where diverse philosophies coexist in harmony.

Today, Pingliang is drawing upon this profound cultural legacy to shape a modern vision of wellness tourism.
