Founded in 2016, the Suzhou Symphony Orchestra, one of China's youngest orchestras, unites musicians from 18 countries across four continents and has toured globally since its inception. For many performers of the orchestra, including longtime Italian clarinetist Matteo Tartaglia, the visit became a rare encounter between multiple civilizations — Chinese, Egyptian, and European — unified through music.
More than a performance tour, the Cairo visit reflected a broader vision of cultural exchange: using orchestral music as a shared language to deepen mutual understanding between ancient civilizations. As the orchestra's director Chen Guangxian noted, the most powerful cultural communication is not a one-directional display, but an equal dialogue built on empathy, listening, and shared artistic expression.
