MIU MIU celebrates Chinese New Year with short film
Miu Miu marks the 2026 Chinese New Year with its second Spring Festival-themed short film, The Encounter, created especially for the Year of the Fire Horse. Directed by Chinese filmmaker Gu You and shot by cinematographer Li Sihao, the film unfolds within the stark brutalist architecture of Hangzhou's Gongwang Art Museum, designed by Pritzker Prize winner Wang Shu. Accented by red spheres and veiled in winter mist, the setting provides a striking backdrop.
The film stars Miu Miu ambassadors Lexie Liu and Zhao Jinmai as they navigate rooftops, staircases, and courtyards, where they come upon a white horse — a symbol of independence and vitality. This juxtaposition of urban and rural elements highlights the contrasts between reality and reverie, modernity and memory, themes that lie at the heart of Miu Miu's imaginative universe.
The 2026 Spring Festival collection strikes a balance between structure and comfort, featuring zip-front blousons, oversized hoodies and other relaxed silhouettes. Its color palette spans gray, brown, navy, black and white, extending to a vibrant red, evoking good fortune. Other key pieces include handbags and the new Plume sneakers, which can be customized with two-tone laces and lucky charms.
From January 23 to 25, Miu Miu will host an immersive event on Shanghai's Donghu Road, lighting up the street with festive installations. Popular singer Lexie Liu's single, CHUN, created especially for Miu Miu's celebration, will debut on platforms such as NetEase Cloud Music on Monday.
