Call for short videos from global readers: 10th anniversary of The Three-Body Problem's cosmic echoes

2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the international publication of Liu Cixin’s Three-Body series. Chinadaily.com.cn launches the "10th Anniversary of The Three-Body Problem’s Cosmic Echoes" – Call for Short Videos from Global Readers. Under the theme "Sending Humanity’s Voice to the Cosmos", Chinadaily.com.cn invites participants worldwide to create short videos simulating "cosmic broadcasts", expressing tributes and reflections on The Three-Body Problem. Through sci-fi as a cross-cultural language, the event aims to foster civilizational dialogue and promote the vision of a shared future for humanity.

 

I. Campaign Overview

Participants: Global Three-Body readers regardless of nationality or age.

Submission Period: 00:00 (GMT+8), July 25 – 24:00 (GMT+8), August 20, 2025.

Broadcasting Date: Starting from August 30, 2025, outstanding submissions will be simultaneously broadcast globally.

 

II. Submission Requirements

1. Themes (choose one)

Theme 1: Relay Blessings

Share your wishes for the Three-Body series, author Liu Cixin, or cosmic civilizations. End with: "Thank you, Three-Body!" (You are encouraged to use your native language or any language you're comfortable with.)

Theme 2: Ask Liu Cixin

Post your burning questions about the unsolved mysteries of the Three-Body Cosmos, the inspirations behind the science fiction creation, or philosophical contemplations on human destiny and the future of civilization sparked by the book. Some lucky questions will be selected for Liu Cixin himself to answer!

Theme 3: Share Insights

Read aloud classic quotes that moved you in The Three-Body Problem and share your insights.

2. Format and Technical Requirements:

Duration: Creative short videos not exceeding 60 seconds.

Language: Chinese/English preferred (no subtitles).

Quality:

   ◇ Aspect ratio: 16:9 (landscape shooting).
   ◇ Format: MP4.
   ◇ Resolution: 1080p or higher.
   ◇ Frame rate: 30 fps.

Audio: Clear and discernible sound (external microphone recommended).

File size: ≤500 MB.

Post-Production: Creative editing and post-effects on the video are allowed and encouraged. No watermarks/logos/other copyright marks.

Originality: Submitted works must be original and not infringe on any third party's copyrights, image rights, privacy rights, reputation rights, or other legal rights. If background music is used, ensure international broadcasting rights.

 

III. Submission Methods (choose one)

1. Email Submission

Subject: "3Body10Years" – [Name/Team] – [Theme Number]" (e.g., "3Body10Years" – Zhang San – Theme 1).

Email body must include:

   ◇ Submitter/Team Name
   ◇ Contact Person’s Name
   ◇ Phone Number (optional but recommended).
   ◇ Email
   ◇ Location (country/region)
   ◇ Selected Theme
   ◇ Video language(s).
   ◇ Brief description or the video speech transcript. (especially necessary for “Theme 2: Questions for the Author”).

Attachment: HD MP4 file (filename matching the email subject).

2. Social Media Submission

Upload publicly to at least one platform: Weibo, Bilibili, Facebook, Instagram, X, etc.

Mandatory hashtags:

• If submitting on Weibo/Bilibili, tag @中国日报网. If submitting on FB/IG/X, tag @China Culture.

 

IV. Selection & Recognition

1. Evaluation Criteria:

Submissions will be thoroughly evaluated based on their originality, relevance to the themes of The Three-Body Problem, authenticity of emotional expression, and production quality.

2. Global Showcase:

Outstanding entries will be featured in a highlight reel premiering at the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Overseas Publication of The Three-Body Problem. It will also be broadcast globally through the China Daily Website and its official accounts on Weibo, Bilibili, Facebook, Instagram, and X, as well as through the media platforms of CEPIEC, the China Writers Association, and international partner outlets.

3. “Liu Cixin & CEPIEC Select Awards”:

30 globally curated creators will receive the “Liu Cixin & CEPIEC Select Award”, granting each a signed copy of The Three-Body Problem: Book I (English edition) by Liu Cixin.

 

Ⅴ. Key Terms

1. The organizer will strictly handle the personal information provided by the submitter (name, contact information, email) in accordance with relevant laws and regulations. This information will only be used for the purpose of contact and notification for this event and will not be used for any other commercial purposes or disclosed to third parties without authorization.

2. You retain the copyright to your submitted work.

3. By submitting works, you grant the organizers and the authorized partners of this event the global, non-exclusive, free, irrevocable rights and licenses to use the submitted works for the following purposes:

• Use in any reporting, display, promotion, broadcasting, editing, or compilation related to this event (including but not limited to websites, social media, offline events, news reports, publications, etc.);

• Necessary copying, editing, editing, and technical processing of the works to suit the needs of different broadcasting platforms;

Duration of use: The permission for promotional and broadcasting use of the works is permanent.

4. Ensure that the work is original and does not infringe on any third party rights. In the event of a copyright dispute, the submitter shall bear all legal consequences, and the organizer shall not be held responsible.

5. The submitter must ensure that all individuals appearing in the work are clearly informed and consent to the recording and submission of the video, holding image rights authorization. For minors involved, explicit consent from their legal guardians must be obtained.

6. The organizer reserves the right, within the limits permitted by law, to adjust the details of this event (such as specific broadcasting arrangements, selection details, etc.) as needed and update them when necessary through official channels of Chinadaily.com.cn.

7. The final interpretation of this event belongs to Chinadaily.com.cn.
