Turning Museum Day into a whole season

To celebrate International Museum Day this Sunday, the capital's museums are running a special season. Each month until Oct 8 will be dedicated to exploring a different museum related theme, as a way of promoting the integration of museums with tourism, commerce, and performance, Beijing officials said at a news conference on Thursday.
This year, the main national celebration of International Museum Day will be held at the Grand Canal Museum of Beijing. Following activities including the opening of exhibitions, forums, and performances, the city will continue to organize a series of activities centering around museums.
According to the plan, May will be exhibition month, June technology month, July cultural and creative products Month, August study tour month, and September education month.
"The urban space will be transformed into museum exhibition halls, presenting cultural charm through creative works, allowing museum resources to reach grassroots levels and meet the growing cultural demands of the people," said Song Haojie, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Cultural Heritage Bureau.
Haidian district will play a major role in June's technology month. With its abundance of cultural heritage and technology companies, it will organize activities showing the progress achieved and promoting future cooperation.
"Technology month will illustrate the vision of deep integration between technology and culture. We will make full use of our many cultural and technological resources, closely collaborate with the Beijing Municipal Cultural Heritage Bureau, and make every effort to propel the cultural heritage industry to a new level of development, in a cultural and technological feast for the public," said Yang Hailin, deputy head of Haidian district.
