Renmin University to announce results of sexual misconduct investigation soon
The Renmin University of China in Beijing Monday said it will soon disclose the results of an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct against one of its instructors.
On Sunday, a video circulated online showing a doctoral candidate in literature at the university publicly accusing her mentor of sexual harassment and coercive molestation.
The student, who identified herself as Wang Di, claimed that her mentor Wang Guiyuan demanded a sexual relationship. When she refused, he allegedly spent the next two years harassing her and threatened to prevent her from graduating.
The student said she has audio recordings and chat logs to prove her allegations and wants Wang Guiyuan to be punished according to the law.
The university noted that it immediately established a working group on Sunday evening and conducted an investigation overnight.
It will announce the results of the investigation in the coming days, it said.
