Investigation reveals carbon monoxide cause of death for seven
Preliminary investigation shows that seven people died in a grain processing workshop in Xingping village, Wutai county, Shanxi province. The cause was carbon monoxide poisoning, CCTV news reports on Wednesday.
The investigation conducted by the local police revealed that a man named Shan entered a pit of grain drying around 7 pm and went missing. Six people then entered the pit to rescue him but also fell victim to carbon monoxide poisoning.
The fire rescue team arrived at the scene at around 8 pm and sent the seven to the hospital but failed to bring them back to life.
The cause of the carbon monoxide buildup in the area is said to be due to the interconnection between the heating facilities and the feeding device, which had not been shut down properly after pausing operation in previous years.
