Forbidden City inspires latest line from clothing brand

This year, the Forbidden City is embracing the 600th anniversary of its establishment.
The Chinese clothing brand, Yaying China, has drawn unlimited design inspiration from the Forbidden City, considered the symbol of Chinese royal culture.
As the latest line of its Spring/Summer 2020 haute couture series was inspired by the collection of Chinese classic fans displayed in the Forbidden City, the brand has made "The Grace of the Palace" its theme this season.
The brand's creative director Chen Xi continued to draw inspiration from exhibits in the Forbidden City, including paintings, architecture, utensils and armor, and showed his understanding of Chinese royal aesthetics from the traces left from historical events, such as affairs of state, entertainment activities, parties of competition, military uniforms and weapons used for wars.
Five totems -- peony, Ruyi, dragon pattern, twelve costume patterns that showed people's social class in imperial eras, and the curve of the river and cliff (which contains beautiful blessings and cultural meaning) -- are blended into the clothing in contemporary designs, allowing people to experience the infinite vitality of the Forbidden City as a treasure trove of art as well as the elegance of China.
