YANGON - The Myanmar-China Friendship Association offered scholarships to 88 high-performing, low-income students from Myanmar on Jan 26.

"We don't want outstanding students to drop out of school just because they cannot afford it, and that is why we started helping them out," says U Sein Win Aung, chairman of the association.

The program was handed over to the association from the Su Xiuyu (Daw Zin Khine) Foundation, a Chinese education foundation that has been extending scholarships to students from Myanmar since 2013.

"Such assistance means a lot to me. I really appreciate it," says Ma Su Lin Naing, a fifth-year student at the Yangon University of Education, who has been granted scholarships since her first year.

The association has given assistance to 538 students since 2013.
