Featuring a Chinese historical personage Su Dongpo who handled civil affairs with dedication, acted in good faith and behaved with clean hands, the drama depicts his official career, poetry composition and emotions. Different from Tang poets Li Bai or Du Fu, he worked as a government official for over forty years and ministered to five emperors. Despite his turbulent official career, he kept administering and transferred to many locations, always bringing benefits to the people. He was a literary giant in the Song Dynasty, and his literary achievements were made when he suffered setbacks in his official career. In Huangzhou, Huizhou and Danzhou, where he was grieved for "demotion", Su, however, refined his thoughts and made great achievements in literary creation. The drama describes Su's literary achievements and emotional life in the background of his official career. The Sichuan People's Art Theater is a State-owned art institution that specializes in the production and performance of dramas, musicals and children's plays.
